Colt is well known for his invention of a repeating firearm, but was also involved with tin foil cartridges, submarine batteries, and the magnetic telegram. Colt died in Hartford, Connecticut in 1862. Papers relating to his estate can also be found within the collection. Additionally, the collection houses the papers of Colt's wife, Elizabeth. Samples of tin foil were included with some of the letters. There are also two photographs, possibly of Elizabeth Colt.
